Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)
This test measures the amount of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in your blood. DHT is made from testosterone and is one of the most powerful androgens (male hormones). It plays an important role in things like muscle development, hair growth, and prostate health. Why it Matters Checking DHT levels can help your provider understand issues like hair loss, unwanted hair growth, acne, prostate concerns, or symptoms of low testosterone. It’s also useful if you’re taking medications that block DHT (like finasteride or dutasteride) to be sure they’re working as intended. Advanced Accuracy This test is performed using LC/MS/MS (liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry). That’s a state-of-the-art method that’s more precise than standard hormone tests, so even very small amounts of DHT can be measured accurately.
